Platelets Treat Rotator Cuff Tears

Orthopedic surgeons who reviewed recent studies looking at platelet rich plasma treatment for rotator cuff tears, admit that there is evidence that it helps.

The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons reviewed a recent study looking at 200+ people with shoulder pain from a partial thickness rotator cuff tear. People were placed into a corticosteroid injection group and a PRP injection group.

At 3 months, the PRP group had significantly improved pain and function. In fact, at 12-month follow-up, patients who received PRP injections were 16 times less likely to have undergone surgical intervention than patients who received corticosteroid injections.
